Appointment of new CEO Mozilla led to the departure of half of the board of directors

The appointment of Mozilla CEO Brendan Eich is said to have caused an internal conflict at Mozilla. Three of the six members of the board of directors are said to have resigned out of dissatisfaction with the choice. It was previously known that many Mozilla employees are dissatisfied with the choice.

According to The Wall Street Journal, which says it obtained its information from sources at Mozilla, three members of the board of directors did not agree with Eich’s appointment as CEO. These include former CEOs Gary Kovacs and John Lilly, while board member Ellen Siminoff has also resigned. A Mozilla spokesperson is said to have confirmed to The Wall Street Journal that three board members remain, though no further details were provided.

Earlier it was announced that the appointment of Eich has caused a lot of controversy among Mozilla employees. Many of them called on the new CEO to step down because of his support for the controversial Proposition 8 law, which should ban same-sex marriage in California. According to many employees, this is not in line with Mozilla’s image of openness, equality and innovation.

In a blog post, Eich responded by saying that he is committed to promoting equality initiatives in order to address objections to his appointment. However, it is unclear whether the people within Mozilla will be happy with this.
