Reporters Without Borders calls US ‘enemy of the internet’
Reporters Without Borders has labeled the United States as an ‘enemy of the Internet’ for the first time in its annual report. That has to do with the espionage practices of the NSA. The press freedom organization also calls the United Kingdom an enemy of the internet.
This is evident from the list that Reporters Without Borders has put on its website. The United States is mentioned for the first time in the list of ‘enemies’ that the organization publishes annually. According to Reporters Without Borders, the US is a threat to the internet because of the activities of the NSA, which are said to be a symbol of abuse by intelligence agencies through their spying practices.
The United Kingdom is also mentioned for the first time in the list of enemies of the internet. The country owes this to being ‘supervising world champion’, according to Reporters Without Borders. India is also mentioned in the list, also for the first time.
The list includes several countries that have often been characterized as enemies of the internet. These include North Korea, China, Russia and Iran. In total there are nineteen countries in the list. Reporters Without Borders has prepared a document for each country that lists the problems with internet freedom.
