Wolfson introduces sound card for Raspberry Pi

Wolfson Microelectronics has developed a sound card for the Raspberry Pi. The device makes it possible to play and record HD audio with the Pi. The accessory costs converted 33 euros.

The Wolfson Audio Card was officially announced by the manufacturer on Tuesday. The card uses the 8-pin connector that was introduced with the model B of the device. The sound card is capable of outputting 24-bit sound with a sample rate of up to 192kHz via analog 3.5mm output or digitally via s/pdif. As for input, the sound card has two onboard microphones, an analog 3.5mm input and an s/pdif input.

The Raspberry Pi Sound Card is currently only available from the Element14 website. The developer, Wolfson Microelectronics is a British designer of audio chips. Sound chips from the company found their way to the iPod, the original Xbox and some models of the iPhone, among others.
