The organization behind the Raspberry Pi has conceived a plan to make the graphics drivers for the VideoCore IV GPU that the motherboard uses open source. This is possible because owner Broadcom has made public the source code for the graphics driver on the BCM21553 soc. A $10,000 reward has been offered to encourage developers to port the available code to the BCM2835 that runs the Raspberry Pi.
Since its release, the Raspberry Pi has had several uses. For example, a hobbyist has used the mini PC to turn it into a system camera. Another modified his microwave with the Raspberry Pi. Competition has also emerged: Intel and Arduino announced the Galileo board in October.
