Syrian Electronic Army steals million user data after Forbes break-in

The Syrian Electronic Army hacker collective has managed to break into the business magazine Forbes. The data of more than a million people was stolen. Several companies have already been victims of the hacker group.

The hack was made public by Syrian Electronic Army via its Twitter account. On a screenshot is too see that the hackers have invaded the admin console of the WordPress system that Forbes runs on. In addition, they state that the data of more than a million people has been stolen, including email addresses, usernames and passwords. The latter, however, are encrypted. Syrian Electronic Army has put the stolen data online.

It is still unclear how the hackers got in. Forbes says nothing about this, but does say in a statement via Facebook that it has warned the authorities. Forbes warns users that it is best to change their password as a precaution. At the same time, Syrian Electronic Army tells Softpedia that it hacked Forbes for reporting on the conflict in Syria.

It is not the first time that Syrian Electronic Army has hacked websites of well-known companies. Microsoft was previously a victim, and his Skype blog was also hacked. Twitter and The New York Times were also involved with the hackers.
