HTC shows new images of Vive Cosmos with six sensors
HTC has presented a new design for the Vive Cosmos. The upcoming headset will include six camera sensors, and a front that can be disconnected from the glasses. The price and release date is still unknown.
More details about the new headset will be announced in the coming weeks, HTC says. The company published a video on Facebook that shows a head model with the glasses spinning in slow circles for 13 minutes. The video shows how the glasses have six camera sensors: two on the front, two on the side, but also two in the middle, both above and below. The last two had not been shown before. With the additional cameras, a larger field is possible in which the motion controllers can be used.
You can also see how the faceplate can be removed from the headset. The two extra sensors are on that faceplate, which may indicate that it is becoming modular. You can also see that there are holes on the faceplate that probably provide ventilation.
The Vive Cosmos is a new pair of glasses from HTC that the company first showed in January. The glasses should be suitable for both PCs and smartphones, but the company has not yet announced how exactly that works. Nothing further is known about the release date and price, except that the glasses will be released in the third quarter of this year.
