Rumor: Google Assistant is coming to iPhone

Google Assistant will soon be available on the iPhone, according to Bloomberg. The voice assistant is said to have already been made ready for iOS and may be released during Google’s own developer conference I/O, which starts Wednesday.

According to Mark Gurman, a journalist with a trusted reputation for Apple rumors, the arrival of the voice assistant to iPhones will be announced Wednesday during Google’s I/O conference. He writes this on the basis of a source who is familiar with the information. According to a reliable source from Android Police, Assistant will only be available in the US for the time being.

Google would also integrate the voice assistant in kitchen appliances from General Electric. This concerns, for example, freezers, refrigerators, ovens and washing machines. For example, users can then ask to turn the oven on and set it to a certain amount of degrees Celsius, or ask if the washing program has completed. A Google spokesperson declined to comment on questions from Bloomberg.

Google Assistant competes with Apple’s Siri and Amazon’s Alexa. Google Assistant became available in February on smartphones with Android 6 and 7. Initially, Google’s voice recognition was only available on the Pixel smartphones and on smart home hub Google Home. After that, the virtual assistant was also added to Android Wear 2.0. The voice assistant will also come to TVs and cars later this year.
