Users who do not want Bose to collect data must indicate this in the app
Bose has updated its Bose Connect app with an opt-out toggle in the privacy menu. Users who no longer want the app to collect data about music preferences must explicitly turn it off. Bose maintains its position that it does not sell the data.
Bose has announced the availability of the updated Connect app with the opt-out under “Privacy Policy and Settings” on its site. At the end of April, Bose was discredited for collecting data with its Bose Connect app. The company’s doing so was revealed in a lawsuit filed by a customer who claimed that Bose sold the data to third parties.
Bose then admitted to using the app to collect data about the use of the app and the Bose product, such as songs played and volume. The audio company denied selling the data; it would use the data to improve the products. In addition, Bose stated that, in principle, users do not need to use the Connect app: the company’s Bluetooth products also function without it.
The data already collected will not be destroyed. Bose proposes to adjust these so that they can no longer be traced back to the user or his device. Bose does not deny sharing the data. Its privacy policy also states that the company partners with third parties to collect non-personal information.
