Two torrent trackers claim to offer first UHD Blu-ray movie
The two private torrent trackers IPTorrents and UltraHDclub both claim to exclusively offer the cracked uhd-blu-ray version of The Smurfs 2. If the claims are correct, the aacs 2.0 security could be cracked.
It concerns a file of 53.30GB that is offered, without further details being given whether and if so how the aacs 2.0 encryption has been cracked. A Torrentfreak source was initially reluctant due to imperfections in the media info and the color reproduction in the screenshots. After downloading the final file and comparing it with the official UHD disc of The Smurfs 2, he came to the conclusion that it really is the UHD Blu-ray. However, this does not prove that aacs 2.0 has actually been cracked.
Aacs 2.0 is considered unhackable by many for the time being. Part of the security is the requirement for HDCP 2.2 support and the presence of an Internet connection the first time a UHD Blu-ray is played, if the key for decryption is not on the disc itself.
Other parties considered the security to be cracked, such as the Chinese developer behind copying software DVDFab. By the way, he himself will not cooperate; the company pledged last year to adhere to the regulations of the AACS-LA. Slysoft, maker of AnyDVD, already threw in the towel before that, but a company called Redfox took over.
UHD Blu-ray discs can hold 66 or 100GB of data, on two or three layers, respectively. Current Blu-ray discs for movies can hold up to 50GB. Ultra HD Blu-ray supports frame rates higher than 24 fps, such as 50 and 60 fps. The throughput speed with the 66GB discs is a maximum of 108Mbit/s and with the 100GB discs this is 128Mbit/s. Furthermore, the format supports playback based on Rec. 2020.
