Japanese company makes double 13.3″ screen of electronic ink for sheet music

A Japanese company is going to release the Gvido, a kind of large e-reader consisting of two 13.3″ screens, for displaying sheet music. The device uses E Inks Carta technology that is also used in e-readers.

E Ink announces that Japan’s Terrada Music Score will be releasing the dual screen sheet music release this year. According to The Verge, the Gvido will be released on September 20 for 1,600 dollars, converted with VAT about 1,775 euros. The device is also coming to Europe, but a euro price has not been disclosed.

The announcement does not mention the resolution of the 13.3″ screens, but it is E Ink Mobius screens and they have a resolution of 1600×1200 pixels in the mentioned format. The Gvido is intended to display PDFs with sheet music, but can probably also be used for other purposes.Whether the device can handle file formats other than PDF is not yet clear.

According to the press release, the device comes with a cloud service, an unknown amount of built-in memory and a micro-SD card slot. Terrada Music Score provides a stylus with the device, with which notes can be made on the sheet music. There is also a Foot Switch, which can be connected to the sheet music reader with a cable, after which musicians can switch pages with their foot.
