Acer and HP introduce Windows 10 S versions of cheap laptops
Acer and HP have presented convertible laptops with Windows 10 S. Both brands will re-release existing models, but with the education-oriented OS and a lower price.
In a press release, Acer announces the arrival of the TravelMate Spin B1 with Windows 10 S. At CES early this year, the Taiwanese manufacturer already announced the 11.6″ convertible with touchscreen. The version that comes with Microsoft’s new operating system for education has a Celeron processor, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The screen resolution is 1920×1080 pixels and a stylus is included.
According to The Verge, the current Spin B1 model sells for $399 and the Windows 10 S version is significantly cheaper at $299. However, it is not clear whether the more expensive version also has the same specifications. Acer announced the laptop earlier this year with various configurations.
HP will release a Windows 10 S version of its ProBook x360 Education Edition. HP introduced that drop-resistant convertible in December of last year. The reinforced model has a folding 11.6 “screen with a resolution of 1366×768 pixels. As in the Acer, the hardware also consists of a Celeron processor, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The model with the regular version of Windows 10 was released in the US for $329, the new Windows 10 S variant costs $299.
It is not yet known whether and when the Windows 10 S laptops from Acer and HP will come to the Benelux. Brands such as Asus, Dell, Toshiba, Samsung and Fujitsu are also coming with laptops with the new OS, according to Microsoft, but have not yet announced any details about it.
Microsoft presented its new operating system on Tuesday afternoon that should compete with Chrome OS. Microsoft itself presented the Surface Laptop with faster hardware. That model will be available in June for a price starting at 1149 euros.
