Apple may announce Siri speaker in June
According to an analyst, Apple will announce a Siri speaker during its developer conference WWDC on June 5. The speaker would be more expensive than, for example, the Amazon Echo, but should also offer better sound quality.
KGI Analyst Minch-Chi Kuo reports in the report, which has been seen by 9to5mac, that the Siri speaker consists of seven tweeters and a subwoofer. A name for the speaker has not yet been decided, but just like the Amazon Echo and Google Home, it would be a smart speaker for controlling smart home devices.
The speaker would also have fast hardware on board. KGI speaks of a soc that is comparable to that of the iPhone 6 or iPhone 6S. The device will use Apple’s voice assistant Siri and presumably offer integration with iOS, macOS and AirPlay. According to the report, the Siri speaker will hit the market in the second half of the year. The device would be made by Inventec, which also makes the wireless AirPod earbuds.
Sonny Dickson, who often releases information about unannounced Apple products, said in a number of tweets last week that Apple is finalizing the speaker. He stilt that the device runs on a variant of iOS and uses technology from Beats Audio.
At the end of last year, a rumor appeared that Apple will stop developing AirPort routers. Employees would have been transferred to other divisions. The new product may also have to inherit functions from it. Rumors about a Siri speaker from Apple have been around for some time. Last year it was reported that Apple has been developing the speaker for years.
