Custom rom Paranoid Android makes return
The well-known custom rom Paranoid Android will probably make a return. The makers of the rom have put a teaser picture and a statement on Google Plus. The image shows a silhouette of the updated pie controls that will be in the rom.
The image and statement the developers posted to Google+ is the first real sign of life the team has shown since the summer of 2016, when it released its Android 6.0.1-based ROMs for the supported devices.
In the statement in the comments to the Google+ post, team leader Arz Bhatia says that the developers do not plan to release so-called nightlies, versions that are not yet completely stable. Instead, they now simply go for versions that are appropriate for the general public. The team is working on a ROM version based on Android 7 Nougat. The Android 6-based ROM came out for devices from Sony, OnePlus, Oppo, and for Google Nexus devices. It is not known for which devices the new ROM will be released.
Pie controls are a round or semi-circular interface that can be called up by holding down a certain hard or software button, after which the pie pan appears. It is subdivided into pie slices, each of which represents a specific button and function. Pie controls are a method of turning a single button into multiple buttons. This is one of the main features of Paranoid Android.
This increased commitment to stability is also due to the team losing some key developers. Presumably, Bhatia refers to the members who have been hired by OnePlus to work on its own rom OxygenOS.
