Spotify will no longer develop the music app for Windows Phone or provide regular updates. The app has been placed in the so-called ‘maintenance mode’. Critical security updates are only released for the latest version of Spotify.

No new features will be added to Spotify’s Windows Phone app and older versions will no longer be supported. Spotify can still be used as usual and is still available in the Windows Store. Spotify has announced this on the official forum on the company’s website.

Last year, the Spotify app for Windows Phone received its last major update. This update introduced a new user interface with a refreshed navigation. A number of bug fixes were also implemented, which should improve the stability and user experience of the app. New functionalities such as Spotify Connect, Spotify Running and podcasts were never added to the Windows Phone version of the app.

Spotify had a total of 100 million active users and 50 million paid users in March 2017. Alternatives to Spotify on Windows Phone are, for example, the Spotify or Groove Music app from Microsoft.
