Western Digital has presented its first external SSDs for mobile use. The My Passport SSD comes in three storage variants, with 256GB, 512GB and 1TB. Data is transferred via a USB-C connection on the external SSD.

If you don’t have a USB-C, you can use an adapter to a traditional USB-A connection, which WD puts in the box. The SSD can transfer data with a maximum of 515MB/s, claims the manufacturer. Data on the disk is protected with 256-bit AES encryption.

The external storage can handle Windows and macOS, and can survive drops from nearly six feet, the maker says. The SSD has a design with two different halves. The top half is black, while the bottom is a shiny light part.

WD asks for the 256GB version of the My Passport SSD €129.99, while the 512GB variant should cost €209.99. The 1TB option has a suggested retail price of 409.99 euros.
