‘Screenshot shows concept start menu from next version Windows 10’

A screenshot of what would be the start menu in the next version of Windows 10 has surfaced online. The update, currently codenamed Redstone 3, reportedly includes a start menu with semi-transparent live tiles.

Twitterer Tom Hounsell published the screenshot and according to The Verge it is indeed an internal screenshot from Microsoft showing a concept of the start menu in the next Windows version. It concerns the so-called ‘Neon’ start menu with semi-transparent live tiles, while current live tiles cannot be transparent. The concept shows a Snapchat icon in the start menu, but that does not mean that there will be a Snapchat app for Windows 10, according to The Verge.

This Windows 10 Redstone 3 update is mainly about Project Neon, the collective name under which Microsoft wants to bring animations, simplicity and consistency to the interface of Windows 10. In addition, it will probably be possible to blur the background and the navigation bar, so that the currently open screen or app stands out more. This update also aims to make the operating system work uniformly on all platforms, such as the HoloLens for example. It is likely that the update will also introduce the People Bar, which will display the faces of recent contacts at the bottom right of the taskbar.

The next version of Windows should be out later this year. This is the second major update to Microsoft’s operating system for this year. The Creators Update has been available to install since Wednesday and that update will automatically arrive next week on all PCs with Windows 10.
