Square Enix has shown the first images of its Avengers game. The footage shows famous superheroes as they repel an attack on the Golden Gate Bridge. The game will be released on May 15, 2020 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC and Google Stadia.

The trailer, from the game announced more than two years ago, shows the Avengers as they celebrate the opening of their San Francisco location. The celebration is ruined by several explosions away, after which the superhero group tries to stop the danger. However, this fails and the Avengers are blamed for the attack. Five years later, a great evil threatens the world and the superheroes must reunite to stop it. This makes the game seem to use story elements from previous Avengers movies.

The playable characters are the original Avengers: Captain America, the Hulk, Iron Man, Black Widow and Thor. Players can play alone or in co-op with other users in both single and multiplayer. The voices are provided by Nolan North and Troy Baker, known for the Uncharted and The Last of Us series respectively. New heroes and locations added to the game after release are free, and there are no loot boxes or pay-to-win items.

Square Enix is making the game in collaboration with Crystal Dynamics, Marvel Games, Eidos Montreal, Nixxes Software and the recently opened Crystal Northwest. The game is under an exclusive deal with PlayStation, allowing players with that console to beta test and other extras to be revealed soon.
