Microsoft announced a new Battletoads game at E3. The side-scrolling fighting game based around the three human toads Rash, Zitz and Pimple is coming to Xbox One and is also available through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and Xbox Game Pass for the console.

With Battletoads for Xbox, developers Rare and Dlala Studios are breathing new life into the 1991 game of the same name. The game then appeared for NES and Sega Mega Drive, and between 1993 and 1994 also for Sega Game Gear and the Commodore Amiga. Later, the aggressive amphibians were also featured in titles such as Rare Replay, Killer Instinct, and Shovel Knight.

According to Microsoft, the new game follows the old-school beat-em-up style of the original games, with the trio of toads once again taking on hordes of enemies. It can be played alone or in co-op with three players at a time, using special team moves.

Players can expect a new definition of retro, with hard-hitting attacks, death-defying vehicle chases and mind-bending puzzles.
