IKEA will make custom desk accessories for gamers in 2020
IKEA will sell custom, 3D-printed desk accessories for gamers. It initially involves keycaps, a mouse bungee and a custom wrist rest. With an app, users take a photo of their wrist, after which the support is made based on that.
IKEA is collaborating on the project with Unyq, which has been making 3D-printed prosthetics for some time, but for people with scoliosis and people who need prosthetic limbs. In the course of the collaboration, other products were also made as prototypes, such as chairs and desks. For now, however, the Swedish company will stick to these three products.
A degree of personalization is possible with the products. A demo video shows that the customize option is available for every product in the catalog. In any case, customers can put a short piece of text on their products. It is not clear whether the keycaps can also be described. Those in the video are blank, except for the texture. Engadget talks about the option to customize the wrist rest via the app.
The product range, which will be called Uppkoppla, will be available from 2020. IKEA has not yet disclosed pricing information. It is also not clear whether the products will be immediately available worldwide in 2020.
