The Apple Watch gets its own App Store with watchOS 6 and no longer requires companion apps on the connected iPhone. Apple made the announcement at its Worldwide Developer Conference. As a result, users can perform more functions without iPhone.

The App Store in watchOS 6 makes it possible to view the description and ratings of apps, and to download and install the apps. Apple has also dropped the requirement for the watchOS app to work in tandem with an iOS app on an iPhone.

It will also be available on the iPhone, as a feature in the Health app. Apple will release watchOS 6 this fall, while developers can install a beta this week.
