Shenmue III has been postponed to November 19
The game Shenmue III was supposed to be released on August 27, but the makers say that it will be postponed to November 19. The game, for which money was raised via Kickstarter, will be released for PC and PlayStation 4.
Yu Suzuki, the developer who conceived the series, along with publisher Deep Silver, report that the game is almost ready, but that it will still require a delay of about three months, because the game still needs some refinement before it is fully completed. Incidentally, this is not the first delay of this project; the game was originally supposed to be released in 2017, but was previously delayed to the end of 2018 and then to August this year.
The makers announced in November last year that a total of $7.18 million had been raised; that was well above the stated goal of two million dollars. The crowdfunding campaign for Shenmue III kicked off during E3 2015.
Sega released the first Shenmue game for the Dreamcast in Japan in late 1999, followed by the rest of the world a year later. Shenmue was one of the first open world games. Sega also released remasters of Shenmue I and II in August last year, although the company is not directly involved with Shenmue III.
Shenmue I is set in 1980s Japanese Yokosuka. The player takes on the role of martial artist Ryo Hazuki. He undergoes a battle to avenge his father’s murder. The already released second part continues that story and is set in 1987 in Hong Kong. Shenmue III is also set in China.
