Arkane Co-Founder’s Action RPG Weird West Delayed Until March 2022
Weird West, the upcoming immersive sim and action RPG from two former Arkane executives, has been delayed until March 31, 2022. The game was initially set to release on January 11 for consoles and PCs.
Developer WolfEye Studios reports that it will take more time to fix the latest bugs. Raphaël Colantonio, co-founder of Dishonored studio Arkane, tells in a video that the game is currently being tested in a closed beta and that the studio realizes the game is “not quite ready yet.” In a blog post on Steam writes the developer that it therefore wants to take extra time to fix the latest bugs.
“Weird West is a deep mix of an action RPG and an immersive sim that has the potential to deliver unique experiences. The game also contains a number of variables that can in turn lead to unintended consequences,” the studio wrote. That’s why the game will be delayed by about 11 weeks. That gives the studio, in its own words, time to solve ‘difficult problems and accidental dead ends’.
Weird West was announced in 2019. The game is set in the wild west and will be a mix between an action RPG and an immersive sim. The latter is a game genre that emphasizes the freedom to tackle problems in different ways. Examples include games such as BioShock, Deus Ex, Dishonored and Prey. Weird West is given an isometric perspective. The game will be released for the PS4, Xbox One and PCs via Steam and will also be available via Xbox Game Pass.
