Sigil, the free game by John Romero that runs as a mod for the original Doom, will be released on May 31. Anyone who has purchased a paid edition of the game can download the game since Sunday and any physical extras are on the way.

John Romero, who was associated with Doom, Doom II, The Ultimate Doom and Doom 64, made the news known on Twitter. The release of the game has been delayed several times because the production targets of the physical editions could not be met. The game was originally supposed to be released in February. The physical editions consist of extra large boxes, a USB stick in the form of a floppy disk, a print, a coin, a statue, a t-shirt, stickers and more. The physical edition was available in a standard and a deluxe version.

Sigil is an unofficial sequel to the final chapter of The Ultimate Doom, called Thy Flesh Consumed. The game contains nine single player levels and nine multiplayer levels. Since the game is designed to run within the original Doom, the game is mouse look and jump ‘cheating’, according to the maker.

If you don’t want to wait until May 31, you can already deposit 6.66 euros to download the game from Romero’s website. For that money they also get a digital copy of Buckethead’s Sigil soundtrack. The first playthroughs can also be found on sites such as YouTube and Twitch.
