ASRock makes external Radeon RX 570 graphics card with thin-mini-itx form factor
ASRock shows on the Computex an external Radeon RX 570 video card with the thin-mini-itx form factor and a thunderbolt 3 connection. The video card board can be concealed in a small housing or behind a monitor.
ASRock uses a circuit board the size of a thin-mini-itx motherboard for the RX570TM-ITX/TBT. It has an AMD Radeon RX 570 GPU and 4 or 8GB GDDR5 video memory. Furthermore, ASRock has added two thunderbolt 3 controllers. One of them is used for the GPU, the other for all I/O connections on the board. There is, among other things, a SATA port for connecting storage and there are four USB 3.1 Gen2 ports with type-a connector.
The board is an external video card that can be connected to a laptop with Thunderbolt 3, for example. ASRock wants to make the board available to manufacturers of monitors, for example, so that they can build screens that can be connected to a laptop with a single cable and then provide not only an image, but also extra graphical computing power. The board is also going on sale and an ASRock employee states that the price will not be much higher than that of a separate Radeon RX 570 video card.
There is a separate power supply with the external video card. On the Computex, ASRock shows a 330W copy. That is much more than is necessary to control an RX 570, but it also makes it possible to provide a connected laptop with power. According to ASRock, 60W can be charged via the Thunderbolt 3 connection. It is not yet known when the sign will be on the market.
