Spotify and Waze integrate their music and navigation functions into each other’s apps
Spotify and Waze will integrate their services into each other’s mobile apps. Waze users can access Spotify’s music lists directly from the app’s interface. Conversely, Spotify users can directly use Waze’s navigation services.
Both mobile apps will receive an update to enable the new functionalities. After a playlist has been set up, it will automatically start up in Waze when the navigation service is started. Spotify has announced that. It is only possible to scroll through the music lists and browse between the two apps when the car is completely stationary.
The new functionalities will gradually become available to Android users worldwide in the coming weeks. The updates are not yet available for iOS. It is unclear when or if this integration of Spotify and Waze will also be available for iOS.
Waze is a navigation service with 75 million active users. The app is owned by Alphabet, the parent company of Google. The American tech giant competes with Spotify through the music streaming service Google Play Music.
Given the popularity of Spotify, this partnership may be a way to get more people interested in Waze and specifically in the Uber-like carpool service announced last year that Waze offers in America, especially in the San Francisco region. Similarly, Spotify will want to interest Waze users in the music streaming service.
