Lenovo will gradually release all smartphones under the Motorola brand
Lenovo will release all its smartphones under the Motorola brand name in the future, including the models that still appear under its own name or the Zuk sub-brand. Just a year ago, the company replaced the Motorola brand name with ‘Moto by Lenovo’.
Lenovo is going to ‘breathe new life’ on the Motorola brand name with the Moto Z, Cnet writes based on a conversation with chairman and president of Motorola, Aymar de Lencquesaing. The Lenovo brand name should eventually disappear and be replaced by Motorola.
This will be gradual, depending on the position of the two brand names in markets worldwide. For example, ‘Motorola’ would be known in Brazil, for example, while Lenovo as a brand name has a strong position in Russia. Even in its home country of China, Motorola must eventually become the name under which the company’s smartphones appear and sub-brands such as Zuk must also disappear there.
The step is striking, because a year ago Lenovo exchanged the name Motorola in smartphones for the designation ‘Moto by Lenovo’. The name never completely disappeared; for example, the smartphones are on the Motorola site and in practice many customers and media continued to use the Motorola name. Lenovo has also continued to use the ‘M’ batwing logo. During the MWC 2017 in Barcelona, the Motorola name was not yet visible at the Lenovo booth on the show floor, although Lenovo had given the batwing logo prominent places.
