Sony provides midrange Xperia XA1 devices with 23-megapixel camera

Sony has announced two midrange smartphones at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. It concerns the Xperia XA1 and the XA1 Ultra, which have a 5″ and a 6″ screen respectively and both run on a Helio P20 soc from MediaTek.

The larger Ultra variant has a 1080p screen, as opposed to the 720p screen of the smaller XA1. In both cases, the screens have thin bezels on the sides. There are also differences between the two devices in terms of the front camera. The smaller phone has an eight-megapixel camera with a ’23mm equivalent’ lens, while the Ultra model has a 16-megapixel camera with optical image stabilization.

Both devices have a 23-megapixel rear camera with a 1/2.3″ Exmor RS sensor and a ’24mm equivalent’ lens with an f/2.0 aperture. The camera features hybrid autofocus. both models have a Helio P20 soc, which is an octacore at 2.3GHz with a Mali T-880 MP2 GPU.The working memory of the devices comes down to 3GB for the XA1 and 4GB for the XA1 Ultra, with the storage of 32 and 64 GB can be expanded with a micro SD card.

The battery has a capacity of 2300mAh and 2700mAh respectively. In addition, the devices use Qnovo’s Adaptive Charging, which should ensure a longer battery life. According to Sony, the devices will be equipped with Android 7 at release.

The phones are available in white, black, gold and pink colors and will be released this spring, according to Sony. The Xperia XA1 has a suggested retail price of 279 euros, while the Ultra variant is available for a price of 379 euros.
