Rockstar will no longer release ‘major updates’ for Red Dead Online
Rockstar says it will no longer release major updates for Red Dead Online. The company says it has shifted development time to the new GTA game in recent years, reducing support for Red Dead Redemption II’s multiplayer.
The developer still promises launch special events around certain seasons “and improve the experience.” In addition, this year the company wants to improve the existing game modes and add new Telegram missions. But players shouldn’t expect to see themed content of a certain size anymore, Rockstar says.
This means that the game probably won’t get any new game modes or other major improvements. Red Dead Online, the multiplayer mode of Red Dead Redemption II, was released in November 2018 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. A year later, the game became available for PC and Stadia. The last major expansion for Read Dead Online was released last year.
The fact that Rockstar is ceasing development of the online mode is somewhat striking; Grand Theft Auto Online will still receive major improvements and appeared in 2013. Rockstar also does not say it will stop developing the multiplayer of GTA V, although it is obvious that the number of major updates will also decrease as the release of the GTA V. next GTA game is getting closer. Red Dead Online players have been complaining for some time about the relatively low number of updates the game has received compared to GTA Online.
Rockstar confirmed to be working on a new GTA game in February. Further details on this have not been disclosed.
