The Chinese manufacturer TCL, which among other things releases devices under the Alcatel brand, will present a smartphone with a luminous back next month. At the back are LEDs that can, for example, blink to the beat of the music.

Customers can also purchase different backs, presumably to display multiple patterns of light, writes Hungarian tech site Tech2.hu. It is unknown what exactly the system can do, how it works and what the impact will be on the phone’s battery life.

The Android phone has an octa-core processor from MediaTek on board and is said to have a 13-megapixel camera on the back with a dual-LED flash. Further details of the device are still unknown. Last year, TCL presented the Alcatel Idol 4 in February; It is obvious that it will soon show the Idol 5, but whether that is this phone is unclear.

TCL not only makes phones under the Alcatel name, but the company is also the sole licensee for the BlackBerry brand in Europe. In Barcelona it will also show the Mercury, an Android smartphone under the BlackBerry name with a physical keyboard.

The phone with a luminescent back is said to be one of five devices that TCL will unveil at the Mobile World Congress telecom fair in Barcelona. That fair starts in four weeks in the Catalan city and is the stage for many smartphone announcements every year.
