First version Nvidia Shield TV gets update to Android 7.0 Nougat

The first version of the Nvidia Shield TV has been updated to Android 7.0 Nougat. In addition, the two-year-old Android console will receive support for the online game streaming service GeForce Now with performance at the level of the GTX 1080 video card.

The update for the Shield TV has been available since Sunday. Indoors, a game can now also be streamed in up to 4k resolution with the GameStream function. Furthermore, multiple apps have been added to the system: Nvidia Games, Amazon Video, Nest, Twitter, Vimeo and others. The upgrade to Android N introduces a page of recently used apps, support for picture-in-picture, and more.

Nvidia announced the successor to the Shield TV earlier this month at CES in Las Vegas. The new Shield TV not only supports streaming 4K video content, but also HDR images. In addition, the new version of the Android console runs a built-in Plex Media Server and the controller is of a new design. The device will also receive Google Assistant sometime in the coming months.
