Google will release the final version 2.0 of Android Wear in early February. This is apparent from an e-mail to developers calling for apps to be suitable for the new version. Along with Android Wear 2.0, two new Google smartwatches are expected.

Android Police, among others, has published the message sent to developers. Android Wear 2.0 should have been released in the fall, but Google postponed the release to early 2017. Now it is clear that the release will take place in early February. In the course of 2016, several preview versions for developers appeared.

Google will probably announce two new smartwatches simultaneously with the release of Android Wear 2.0. The arrival of those wearables confirmed the company to The Verge in December. Unlike the Pixel smartphones, it’s not about hardware for which Google itself is entirely responsible, but just like the Nexus phones, the watches are designed and made by a hardware partner. It is not yet known who that partner is.

Android Wear 2.0 includes a Play Store, so that users can install apps on their watch. Control via wrist movements is also possible and there will be a Smart Replies function, where pre-programmed answers are presented based on context. Like the smart home assistant Google Home and the Pixel smartphones, the new version of Android Wear can use Google Assistant.
