Nvidia announces GTX 1050 and 1050 Ti for laptops

Nvidia announced the mobile versions of its GTX 1050 cards at CES. The same GPUs are used as on the desktop video cards. In the first three months of 2017, according to Nvidia, more than thirty laptop models with the 1050 GPU will appear.

The GTX 1050 and 1050 Ti mobile cards are very similar to their desktop versions of the same name, although there are some differences. For example, the mobile 1050 can be equipped with 4GB of memory, while the maximum for desktop cards is 2GB. In addition, the maximum boost speed of the mobile 1050 is slightly higher than with the desktop version, but the number of rop units is strikingly halved.

The mobile 1050Ti has a clock speed that is significantly higher than the desktop version. In addition, according to Nvidia, the Pascal chips are up to thirty percent more efficient than the mobile Maxwell predecessors. This is partly because Nvidia has improved Battery Boost.

As usual, Nvidia does not specify the TDP of the mobile GPUs. The heat development will differ per laptop, and depends on the clock speeds and cooling that laptop manufacturers use. Dell has already announced that it will equip its XPS 15 with a 1050 GPU and Lenovo is also putting a 1050 GPU in its new Legion laptops.
