Steam is experiencing some downtime on Friday. The game platform’s services are offline. The outage coincides with the Winter Sale, where many games will be offered at a lower price until January 2.

The nature of the malfunction is still unknown. The downtime is global and affects multiple services, including the Store and Community sites. This is evident from the dashboard for the Steam Services developed by third parties. Downdetector also indicates that users experience a malfunction.

The outage comes a day after the start of the Winter Sale. This lasts for two weeks and within this period many games are offered at a greatly reduced price. It is not known whether crowds due to this discount promotion are related to the outage. Around the busy end of the year, game platforms were often under fire from DDOs attacks in previous years.

Update, 20.40: Steam seems to be back online for the most part.
