Rumor: Xiaomi makes phone with 4.6″ screen and Snapdragon 821

According to a new rumor, the Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi is working on an Android smartphone that has a 4.6 “screen with full HD resolution and a Snapdragon 821 soc from Qualcomm. Such a phone has not yet appeared this year. It is unknown whether the information is correct.

The rumor comes from a Weibo member who often posts about the latest Chinese smartphones and shows slides about the suspected upcoming device. That indicates the poster as Mi S, as if it concerns a new series that falls outside the current numbering of Mi devices.

The device would be 128.3×64.2×8.3mm in size. This would make up 70.8 percent of the front screen. In addition to the Snapdragon 821 soc from Qualcomm, the specs mention a 4GB RAM of the lpddr4-type and 128GB of UFS storage. The battery has a capacity of 2600mAh and is charged via a USB-C port. The camera would be an IMX378 from Sony, the same camera sensor found in the Google Pixel phones.

It is unknown how reliable the information is. There has never been anything published about such a phone before. Xiaomi has stopped making phones with screens under 5″ in recent years. Sony releases a Compact phone with a 4.6″ screen every year, but it keeps the resolution at 1280×720 pixels and with the Xperia X Compact this year has saved on the processor.
