Skype suffers from global outage – update
Skype is experiencing a malfunction on Thursday afternoon. It is not possible to log in and use the service. Microsoft is aware of the issue and says it is working on a fix. The problem only occurs with the desktop application and web client.
Downdetector, an international variant of Allestoringen.nl, shows that the outage started around 13:00. On the page, people from multiple countries state that they can’t log into the service, suggesting it’s a global issue. Also on Twitter complain many users about the malfunction.
Microsoft indicates it is aware of the issue and is working on a fix. The message states that the company hopes that the problem will be resolved quickly. The company has not said what caused the outage. The problem seems to only occur with the service’s desktop application and web client. The Windows Store version will still work.
Update 4:17 PM: The problem has been solved and Skype can be used again with all applications.
