Square Enix has announced two new Final Fantasy VII games. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is a sequel to the Final Fantasy VII Remake and will be released on PS5 in winter 2023. The second game announced is a remaster of the PSP-exclusive Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is the second part of the Final Fantasy VII remake. Final Fantasy VII Remake, a remake of the first part of the game, was released in 2020. Square Enix reports that there will be a third part, after Rebirth.

Rebirth continues the story of Remake, but the developer doesn’t give much more detail than that just yet. The game should be released next winter, with the game set to be released around the turn of the year in 2023 and 2024. In a trailer, the company indicates that the game will be released for the PlayStation 5. Presumably it is a timed exclusive, just like Final Fantasy VII Remake.

The Final Fantasy VII remakes have updated graphics, new gameplay, an expanded story, and other changes. For example, the remakes have voice acting, something that the PlayStation 1 game didn’t have. The gameplay is also in real time, rather than the turn-based action of the first game.

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion

In addition to Rebirth, announced Square Enix a remaster of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion will be released this winter for the PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series and Xbox One consoles, as well as Steam and Nintendo Switch.

This game is a remaster of the 2007 PlayStation Portable exclusive and features HD graphics, refreshed 3D models and full voice acting. Although Crisis Core is tied to Final Fantasy VII, players don’t need to have played Final Fantasy VII games to understand Crisis Core, Square Enix says.
