123ink loses lawsuit from Samsung and has to recover toners
Samsung has won the lawsuit it filed against 123ink. This means that the online store for cheap ink cartridges is obliged to retrieve refilled Samsung toners that have been sold to customers.
It concerns proceedings on the merits in a legal battle that has been going on since 2013. In early 2014, the judge banned the sale of Samsung toners for infringement of two patents of the Korean company. Due to the ruling in the main proceedings, 123ink must place a rectification text on its website and encourage its customers to return the toners sold. They will then receive the purchase amount back.
A total of nine toners are part of the lawsuit filed by Samsung. If you return it before February 9, you can also return the associated Samsung printer: in exchange, 123ink supplies a new Brother laser printer with a number of private label toners. The printers that qualify for this fall in the CLX series.
There are more printer manufacturers competing with shops for cheap ink. For example, HP previously made it impossible to use counterfeit cartridges in its printers. When there was a fuss about that, HP rolled back that update.
