Samsung will start distributing a test version of Android 7.0 for the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge on Wednesday. The test period will last at least until mid-December, which indicates that the update for all users will not come before that time.

According to Samsung, users who want to participate in the test can install the Galaxy Beta Program application from its own download store Galaxy Apps. That download store is on every Samsung phone, but the trial version will only be released for the S7 and S7 edge. It is unknown whether users from the Benelux will also be able to use the test version.

The test lasts from Wednesday to mid-December and Samsung will probably release the update to Android Nougat sometime after that time. The manufacturer has not said when the update will come for the phones of 2016, including the Galaxy S6 series.

Samsung is not doing the test with the latest version of Android, 7.1. Google recently released Android 7.1 together with its own smartphones Pixel and Pixel XL. Samsung’s test is with Android 7.0, which came out in August. Samsung released the Galaxy S7 series this spring.
