Google allows temporary discount on subscriptions in apps
Android app developers will soon be able to offer subscriptions at temporary introductory prices via the Play Store. According to Google, subscriptions are the fastest growing source of income at the Play Store.
As an example, Google offers the offer to try out a service for 1 dollar for the first three months, after which the actual price will apply for the service. The addition of temporary promo prices will coexist with free trials and region-based custom pricing, and Google says it should help developers attract more customers for subscriptions.
The amount consumers spend on subscriptions to the Play Store has increased tenfold in the past three years, making it the fastest growing business model according to Google. Music and video services in particular work with subscriptions. According to The Verge, Google’s own YouTube Red service, where users are not shown advertising, has 1.5 million subscribers after a year.
