Olympus announces that the OM-D E-M1 Mark II will be for sale from December for a suggested retail price of 1999 euros. A kit with 12-40 mm f/2.8 lens will cost 2599 euros. The flagship shoots at 18fps while maintaining autofocus.

Like the other Olympus cameras, the OM-D E-M1 Mark II is a mirrorless system camera with a microfour-thirds sensor. The chip has a resolution of 20.4 megapixels. The device particularly excels in terms of speed: it is possible to photograph at 18 fps in raw format while retaining autofocus. Without autofocus, that speed increases to 60fps, also in full resolution and in RAW.

The device has a movie function with a maximum resolution of 4096×2160 pixels at a frame rate of 24 fps and bit rate of 237 Mbit/s. Full HD video can be recorded at up to 60fps. The E-M1 Mark II has a five-axis stabilized sensor and an electronic viewfinder with a response time of 6ms and a frame rate of 120fps. The housing is sealed against dust and moisture and must also withstand frost.

Olympus focuses with the camera on professional photographers and therefore comes with an associated service for that target group. Photographers can opt for three service levels within the Olympus PRO Service, with varying conditions. The service offers services such as loaner repair, maintenance and prompt customer service.

At the announcement at the Photokina photo fair, Olympus did not yet announce when the camera would be in stores and it was still a matter of guessing about the price. The missing details have now been disclosed by the manufacturer. The OM-D E-M1 Mark II is the successor to the OM-D E-M1, which the Japanese camera manufacturer released three years ago.

Olympus also announces a new macro flash: the STF-8. This will be launched simultaneously with the E-M1 Mark II in December and will cost 499 euros. The macro flash has two adjustable flash heads that can be attached to the front of a lens with an adapter. The flash works with Olympus’ wireless rc flash system and is sealed against dust and moisture.
