‘Samsung will release smartphone without screen edges next year’
Samsung will release a smartphone with minimal screen edges next year. That’s what a technician from the manufacturer said during a trade fair. Recently, competitor Xiaomi presented the Mi Mix, which also has thin screen edges.
The technician did not want to confirm that it is a variant of the Galaxy S8, but does tell the South Korean site The Investor that Samsung is investing heavily in the upcoming smartphone. The relative screen size would be above 90 percent. That is in line with Xiaomi’s Mi Mix. The smartphone presented last week has an LCD that, according to the manufacturer, covers more than 91 percent of the front of the phone.
Samsung would like to integrate sensors that currently fall outside the screen into the screen. This would be necessary because there is not enough space outside the screen. It is unknown whether Samsung can integrate the fingerprint scanner and front camera in the display.
Earlier there was a rumor that Samsung is developing a screen that is curved on four sides. It should be in a variant of the Galaxy S8. That device is likely to be released next spring. Samsung brings its Galaxy S phones on the market every spring.
