Computer makers launch Windows 10 VR headsets starting at $299
HP, Dell, Lenovo, Asus and Acer will release VR glasses in early 2017 starting at $299. That’s what Microsoft says during its announcement of the Windows 10 Creators Update, which will also be released early next year. Specifications are not yet known.
Microsoft calls the hardware VR accessories for its Creators Update and the VR glasses are therefore compatible with the 3D functions that the update comes with Windows 10. During the presentation, Microsoft showed how the VR glasses can be used in HoloTour, an application the company developed for the HoloLens, in which places such as Rome can be visited virtually.
The VR glasses do not require a separate room or a complicated setup, according to Microsoft. The glasses themselves are equipped with sensors that should allow users to move freely in the virtual environment.
Prices of such VR glasses will start at $299, according to Microsoft. It is not yet clear what the specifications of the glasses are. It is also unclear whether the VR glasses can be used in combination with, for example, Steam VR or other virtual reality platforms.
