Nintendo expects to deliver two million units of the console in the month in which the Switch is released. The Japanese company has sold 560,000 Wii U consoles in the past six months. Sales have halved compared to a year ago.

The Switch console, which Nintendo unveiled last week, will be released in March. The sale price is not known, but according to Nintendo, the company will not sell the device below cost.

It was announced during the discussion of the quarterly figures that the company expects to deliver two million units in March. A journalist from the WSJ and the NintendoWorldReport site separately report on that expectation.

The Wii U sold just over three million units in the first quarter of its sales, but those sales started in November, the start of the annual hardware sales period. Nintendo initially expected to sell nearly a hundred million Wii Us, Nintendo announced in July.

Sales of the WiiU dropped quickly after its release and a total of 13.36 million units have now been sold. Sales in the past six months were 53 percent lower than last year in this period, and sales of console software were also 33 percent lower. In the next six months, until the end of its fiscal year in March, Nintendo expects to sell only 240,000 Wii Us.

Nintendo sold 2.71 million units of 3DS handhelds in the past six months. The sale of the handheld is also leveling off. Nintendo’s quarterly turnover amounted to 1.2 billion euros, a decrease of 33 percent. The loss amounted to 52.3 million euros, compared to a profit of 78.9 million euros last year.
