Lenovo introduces mini PC with AMD apu
Lenovo has announced a new mini PC. The computer has a volume of only one liter and runs on an AMD APU. The ThinkCentre Tiny M715 complements existing mini PCs equipped with an Intel processor.
The small computers are equipped with the new Bristol Ridge APUs, which have a TDP of 35 watts. According to Lenovo, the flagship model, with an A12-9800E, offers performance comparable to older systems with an A10-8750, while consuming only a third of the power. The 8750 has a TDP of 65 watts.
Other APUs that the system can ship with are the AMD A10-9700E, A6-9500E, A12-8870E, A10-8770E and A6-8670E. The computer has two Sodimm DDR4 slots and offers space for a 2.5″ HDD or SSD and an M2 SSD. Support is available for 802.11ac WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0.
At the back of the computer are four USB 3.0 ports, two display ports, an internet connection and a 3.5 mm connection. An extra VGA connection is optionally available. At the front are two audio connections and two USB 3.0 ports, one of which can be used for ‘fast charge’. Presumably, that USB port offers more power than other ports, but does not support standards such as Qualcomm’s Quick Charge.
The computers are very similar to the ThinkCentre Tiny M600, M700 and M900. However, they have Intel processors, ranging from types like the Celeron N3000 to the Core i7 6700T.
According to the German website Computer Base, the computers will be available in select regions from October 31. It is not yet known whether the Benelux falls under this and how much the computers will cost. The computers will ship with Windows 10 Pro, but a downgrade to Windows 7 Professional is possible.
