Crytek and EA lash out at software pirates

Publisher Electronis Arts and developer Crytek have lashed out at the software pirates who recently put a cracked version of Crysis 2 on the internet. According to the companies, the pirates are causing great damage to the PC game market.

In a declaration from EA and Crytek on the publisher’s official website, the parties urge dedicated PC gamers and fans of Crysis to wait for the game until the product is officially available for purchase. According to the developer, the version that appeared on the internet last weekend is not the fully completed version of Crysis 2. The retail version, which should be released on March 22, is said to be better finished than the version that can now be found on various torrent sites. It is still unclear how the early version of Crysis 2 was able to come out.

Crytek and EA emphasize in the statement that piracy seriously harms the PC game market and PC game development. However, community members point to the developer as a scapegoat in their responses, under EA’s statement. According to them, Crytek should not blame the community, but ensure that it has its security in order.

Unsurprisingly, Crytek and Electronics Arts are sounding the alarm now that Crysis 2 has leaked. The first Crysis also came out unofficially prematurely, and the developer darling later that there were about twenty pirated versions in circulation for every Crysis game sold. According to Crytek, this prevented Crysis from meeting its commercial goals, and the franchise’s survival was questioned.
