Square Enix will release Final Fantasy XVI in the summer of 2023 for the PlayStation 5. The company reports this in a trailer, which also shows gameplay footage of battles with Eikons. The game is now in its final stage of development.

The game can now be played ‘from start to finish’, reports Final Fantasy XVI’s director Hiroshi Takai. Now the game still needs to be optimized and polished before it is ready for release. A release date is not yet given, only that the game should be released in the summer of next year.

Gameplay footage is shown in the trailer and part of the story is given. Those gameplay footage shows protagonist Clive Rosfield fighting Eikons. Also, the Titan and Garuda Eikons are introduced, along with their Dominants.

Creative Business Unit III is the developer of Final Fantasy XVI. When it was announced in 2020, there was talk of a PC version. Nothing is being said about that PC version now: Square Enix only announces that the game will be released for PlayStation 5 next year. Earlier, the publisher said that the development of the game was almost six months behind schedule, partly because of the corona pandemic.
