Studio behind Euro Truck Simulator 2 will not release Russia DLC for the time being

Developer SCS Software is not releasing the Heart of Russia expansion for Euro Truck Simulator 2 for the time being. The studio is doing this because of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The developer does not rule out the possibility that the DLC will be released after the war.

SCS Software writes that the company is delaying the release of the expansion “so that it is in no way construed as supporting or tolerant of the aggression” in Ukraine. According to the studio, the expansion was almost ready for release at the time of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, but it has now been decided not to release the DLC for the time being.

The Czech developer does not rule out the possibility that the expansion will be released at a later time. “When the time comes for Ukraine’s reconstruction and recovery, we will seek to find a way for our Heart of Russia DLC to play a part in that recovery process.” The company previously released a cosmetic Ukraine Paint Jobs Pack dlc packwith all proceeds going to the Ukrainian charity People in Need.

Euro Truck Simulator 2 was released in 2012 and has since amassed a loyal following. The game consistently has 30,000 concurrent players on Steam every day, according to information from SteamDB† The developer has been releasing expansions for the truck simulation game for years that add new parts of Europe. Recently, SCS released an Iberia DLC that added Spain and Portugal. Before that, France, Italy, other parts of Eastern Europe and Scandinavia already received expansion packs.

The next DLC release would be Heart of Russia. The studio announced that expansion in March 2021 on† Given Russia’s size, the expansion would not include the entire country, but SCS hoped to reach “the upper part of the Volga River.” Users could drive their trucks to cities such as Moscow and beyond. A small portion of Russia is already available in the game right now, as part of the 2018 Beyond the Baltic Sea expansion.
