Facebook sets system requirements for reviews of its Windows 10 Mobile apps
Facebook has imposed strict system requirements before users can post reviews of the Facebook and Facebook Messenger apps for Windows 10 Mobile. Despite the high system requirements, users of cheaper phones can install the apps.
Facebook has not yet provided an explanation for the high system requirements, but there are many users who have problems with the apps, Winbeta claims. Because Facebook has stated 2GB in the Store listing requirements, it does not officially support the apps on lower-spec phones, which prevents those users from posting reviews. The app can be installed on those devices for the time being.
Although high-end models with Windows 10 Mobile such as the Lumia 950 and HP Elite x3 do have more than 2GB of memory on board, this does not apply to the cheap models Lumia 650 and 550. Facebook has the apps for its own social network and for Messenger made with OSMeta, the technology of a startup that Facebook bought several years ago. OSMeta’s technology enables the iOS app’s Objective-C code to run on Windows 10 Mobile and Windows 10.
Previously, Microsoft made Facebook apps for Windows Phone, but the social network has now taken over that task itself. Users of the apps complain, among other things, that the software does not register touches. According to users, the apps also crash regularly.
The Instagram app, also owned by Facebook, has no new system requirements. Instagram also came out for Windows 10 Mobile by using OSMeta.
