Gigabyte equips GTX 1080 with waterblock for custom water cooling

Gigabyte introduces the GTX 1080 Xtreme Gaming Waterforce WB. The video card is equipped with a water block that must be connected to a custom loop water cooling system. The copper cooling block makes contact with the GPU and the VRAM.

The new video card appears to be largely similar to the GTX 1080 Waterforce that Gigabyte released earlier. That version has a closed water cooling system with its own radiator; the new model with WB after the name is equipped with a water block for custom water cooling. A metal backplate is attached to the back.

Gigabyte clocked the GPU of the GTX 1080 at 1759Mhz, with a boost to 1898MHz. There is also an overclocking mode with base clock of 1784MHz and boost clock of 1936MHz. The card has 12+2 power phases. The copper cooling block has a transparent reservoir with RGB LEDs. The color of the LEDs can be adjusted with the supplied software.

Zotac previously presented a GTX 1080 with water block and MSI also makes a version of the video card with a water block. Gigabyte has not yet announced a suggested retail price and it is unknown when the GTX 1080 Waterforce WB will be in stores.
