HP releases private label cartridge support update
HP has released the update to bring back support for private label cartridges. The manufacturer promised to release the update after customers complained that they could no longer use cheaper cartridges in their HP printers.
It concerns printers from the Officejet, Officejet Pro and Officejet ProX series, HP says in a notification on its own website. The update can be found under the ‘firmware’ heading on the printer support page. The site reports that the update became available on October 12.
HP promised the update two weeks ago after it made it impossible to use private label cartridges without notice. Many users opt for a private label because the cartridges are less expensive.
This is a temporary situation, Hardware.info reports. HP is said to be determined to prohibit the use of private label cartridges on at least some of its printers in the future, but it has now reversed this measure due to lack of communication.
